Join arts and mental health charity CoolTan Arts on a guided walk from Maudsley Hospital to Dickens Square,SE1, where in Dickens' bicentenary year, we aim to uncover some of the lesser-known facts about Britain's most celebrated novelist.
Along the 3 mile route hear about the local history and landmarks of Southwark and their connection to Dickens life and novels.
Learn more about Dickens early years in Lant Street, his fathers imprisonment in local Marshalsea prison, Little Dorrit, Dickens women characters and mental health in the 19th century.
Dickens himself had experience of mental distress and insomnia and was famous for taking long walks around London, especially at night.

Voted one of London’s Top Ten walks by Timeout magazine, the Largactyl Shuffle is fun, free, fully accessible and a great way to meet new people!
The walk leaders wear orange high-viz vests and rucksacks. Call CoolTan Arts on 07985 658443 if you cannot find the group of walkers on the day.

The walk is free but voluntary donations will be appreciated. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water. The walk is accessible to wheelchair users, people with disabilities.

The Largactyl Shuffle is named after the oldest anti-psychotic drug Largactil that can have extreme physical side effects including a distinctive shambolic gait, or ‘shuffling’.
