At John Jones, we have over thirty years’ experience of making bespoke picture frames. John Jones himself first entered into the fine-art industry during the 1960s. He quickly discovered that he had an aptitude for making high-quality picture frames to order, and it was not long before he was working closely with artists such as Francis Bacon and David Hockney to design frames specifically to complement their work.
The company is family-owned and family-run, and has grown to encompass a highly skilled team of craftspeople, whose expertise in the various disciplines enables us to make virtually any kind of frame. We produce this rich variety – including frames in welded aluminium and brass, Perspex, and timber from environmentally sustainable forests – entirely at our 38,000sq ft north London workshop.
Our clients are drawn from all areas of the fine-art world: private and public galleries, artists, photographers, interior designers and architects. We have built up a rapport with numerous prestigious museums and collectors, including the National Portrait Gallery, Tate and the V&A; we also collaborate on a regular basis with Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and other leading auction houses. As well as established galleries, we also work with young emerging galleries and project spaces across London.
Making bespoke frames to the high standards of conservation required by museums and collectors is our driving passion, and we carry this quest for perfection across into our other, complementary fine-art services.
We have a photographic department, which can photograph original artworks for the purposes of reproduction, archiving and insurance documentation, and also offers a fine-art printing service.
Our artist surfaces are recognised as the highest quality for professional artists in the UK, with a specialist staff on hand to give expert advice on choosing the correct materials for any project. Our custom-made art surfaces include tulip-wood and aluminium stretchers, paper, and aluminium panels.
